Mines: 10 · Opened 0/54 · Right-click or long-press to flag.

Minesweeper has survived every generation of personal computing because it is a perfect information puzzle wearing a gambling costume. The numbers tell you everything; you just have to read them in the right order.

PlayJoy's daily Minesweeper gives everyone the same mine layout, guarantees that your first tap is always safe, and scores you on how fast you clear the board without wasting flags.

Open with the corners and edges

A corner cell touches three neighbours instead of eight, so the odds of hitting a zero — and triggering a large cascade — are far better at the edges than in the middle. Start there and let the flood fill do the work.

Learn the two patterns that solve 80% of boards

The 1-2-1 pattern along a flat edge always has its mines under the outer 1s, never in the middle. The second pattern: if a numbered cell touches exactly as many unknown cells as it has remaining mines, every one of those unknowns is a mine.

Counting is faster than flagging. Most strong players flag only when a deduction is certain and otherwise keep the arithmetic in their head, because every wrong flag costs points.

Fairness note

Some layouts require a genuine fifty-fifty guess at the very end. PlayJoy boards are generated randomly, so we do not guarantee no-guess boards — instead the timer and scoring are tuned so a guess costs you less than a slow deduction would.

How Minesweeper is scored

score = board value + time bonus, reduced by wrong flags

Frequently asked questions

Is the first click always safe?

Yes. If your first tap lands on a mine, that mine is relocated to another cell, so you never lose on move one.

How do I flag a mine on mobile?

Long-press the square for half a second. On desktop, right-click.

Do wrong flags cost points?

Yes. Each flag on a safe square adds a mistake, which reduces your final score.

What board sizes are used?

Level one is 8×8 with 10 mines, level two 10×10 with 16, level three 12×12 with 24.
